In Between the Bites: Dulce De Leche

OK! So I have to share this neat little trick that I found out when I was craving Dulce De Leche. Dulce De Leche is the most common name for milk caramel in Spanish. But of course, NONE of my local grocers carry it and all the recipes I found all entailed about two to three HOURS of work! But then I did a little bit of research and found out something MAGICAL and all you need is a can of sweetened condensed milk!

If you take a can of sweetened condensed milk and boil it for 90 minutes, you have perfect and absolutely delicious Dulce De Leche!  I was so surprised and ecstatic about the results that I am sure this will be a regular for me.  I leapt with joy when i opened the can and the perfect golden brown substance spilled out.  THE TRICK IS to keep the can completely submerged during the boiling process.  It is delicious on strawberries, bananas, and cookies!  I hope you will enjoy this as much as I have!

With Love,

WARNING:  the can will obviously be VERY HOT when you take out of the boiling water so I used tongs and let it sit for about 5 minutes.  I then put the can into a bowl of ice water to speed of the cooling process.  If the can has a pull tab, DO NOT USE THE PULL TAB, use a can opener instead.  After opening the can, I put contents into a bowl and kept it over ice water to continue cooling.

I am always down for a lovely case of fresh strawberries. Easily one of the best things about summer time!
